Learn about Alzheimer
29 years ago today, on 21 September 1994, World Alzheimer’s Day was established in Edinburgh to raise awareness of the impact of the disease on society, sufferers and affected families in order to ensure early diagnosis and support.
📌 This disease is a serious degenerative condition that severely affects the brain and therefore cognitive function and memory, with the result that sufferers are no longer able to live independently in society.
To date, there is no clear etiology for the disease. The minority of cases are related to genetic mutations, but the majority of cases appear to be lifestyle-related. Diet is a modifiable lifestyle factor that can be modified at all stages.
📌 Studies have concluded that both the Mediterranean Diet and the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) dietary pattern can reduce the risk of developing and delaying the progression of the disease.
